SOUTHBOUND FAMILY GROWS…A LOT - 25.11.2008

Southbound 2009 may have sold out in record time but the work is not finished yet! After unleashing our finest line-up of talent yet, Sunset Events is proud to announce another round of superb talent as well as a festival-wide eclectic explosion of visual art, circus performances, dance, experimental art and more, completing the Southbound 2009 experience!

STAGEBOUND

It's official - the mighty fine Will Stoker & The Embers have taken out the StageBound final and are headed straight to the Southbound stage. The band's profile has risen steadily since their inception back in 2006. After winning the National Campus Battle Of The Bands competition in 2007 the five-piece have been building an impressive following of punters on both sides of the continent, drawn to Stoker's unhinged stage persona and impressive musicianship and song craft. Their latest EP - The Five Beds For Bitsy EP - impressively displays the full range of sound and emotion at their collective grasp. Catch them at Southbound.

JB SEED

The JB Seed project has sown its name as one of the finest initiatives in Australia. Just ask Queensland's The John Steel Singers. These purveyors of glorious backyard summer pop melodies are the latest recipients of the much-esteemed grant and are now coming to Southbound! Having been sweating it out in a van learning all the names of towns between Brisbane and Adelaide, JSS have shared the stage with Polyphonic Spree (USA), Built To Spill (USA), Kelley Stoltz (USA), The Brunettes (NZ), The Panics and The Panda Band. Witness the brilliance at Southbound.

SONICBIDS

And after aurally trekking through some of the finest entries we've ever heard (more than 250 in fact), we're mighty excited to announce the Sonicbids winner is The Shiny Brights. These Adelaide indie kids were born in a riverside warehouse amongst an army of used whitegoods. They recently launched their debut EP Let's Not And Say We Did to a sold out crowd in their hometown. The boys are rapidly becoming renowned for their explosive and surprising live shows. The launch comes at the end of an exciting year for The Shiny Brights; in their short career they were featured as the only unsigned act on the Make Poverty History DVD, they've received countless rave media reviews, have shared stages with some of the hottest acts including The Wombats, The Galvatrons, Dukes Of Windsor and Scientists Of Modern Music and have represented South Australia in the influential National Campus Band Competition. The Adelaide Advertiser might be on to something by naming The Shiny Brights as one of the ‘7 local acts to watch in 2008'. Imagine what 2009 could bring...starting with Southbound.

BLUEJUICE

We regret to announce that The Cribs have withdrawn from their national tour and thus Southbound. However, we are excited that Sydney crackers Bluejuice will be stepping up to the microphone. We welcome them to the Southbound family. Sporting an aggressive, party-oriented mix of rock, hip hop, electro and disco, the five member group is in its element making people dance...in interesting ways. A successful formula thus far, the totally independent group has scored high rotation Triple J radio play for each of its three releases. Recent single Vitriol was the second most played song on Triple J in 2007 and was voted number 11 in the 2007 Hottest 100. Problems, the aptly titled debut album from this rag-tag bunch of pirates, was released in August 2007 through MGM, and was short-listed for the 2007 Australian Music Prize.

COCONUT CLUB - SATURDAY

It's all in the name friends! The Coconut Club makes a return to the festival on Saturday and is the place to go for your dizzy fix of rhythmic mayhem, spiced with chilled beats and shaken grooves. And we're thrilled to welcome back the Healing Circle workshops, where you get a chance to learn from the source - whether it be juggling, drumming or dance. Get involved and add your talents to the artistic kaleidoscope that is the Southbound Festival.
