ONE MOVEMENT FOR MUSIC PERTH ANNOUNCES THE FIRST ROUND OF SPEAKERS AND PANELLISTS FOR MUSEXPO ASIA‐PACIFIC

One Movement for Music Perth (OMFM) has firmly positioned itself as the most important music industry event in the Southern Hemisphere. A pioneering music industry conference and showcasing event, OMFM is proud to unveil its first round of speakers for this groundbreaking event to be held 6 to 10 October, 2010.
Music industry luminaries such as Todd Rundgren (hit singer/songwriter and producer) and Steve Schnur (Worldwide Executive and President of EA Music Group for the world’s largest videogame company Electronic Arts) will be making their way to Perth, Australia for their first EVER speaking engagements in the Southern Hemisphere. Joining them are international heavyweights Ron Spaulding (President, Fontana Distribution – the leading independent distribution arm for Universal Music Group), Gary Chen (Founder, co‐Chairman/CEO, Orca Digital/Top 100, China – Google’s music partner in China), Thomas Scherer (Head of Int’l Repertoire, BMG Rights Management, Germany); Mandar Thakur (Founder, MT Consulting, India); Nic Harcourt (DJ, KCRW Los Angeles/Editor at Large, Music & Culture, LA Magazine), Mike Walsh (Head of Music, Xfm UK – one of Europe’s leading tastemaker radio networks), Spek Hussain Yoosef (Managing Director, Fairwood Music Arabia & Middle East) and Australians Richard Kingsmill (Music Director, Triple J) and Damian Trotter (Managing Director, Sony/ATV Music Publishing Australia). Event partners Michael Chugg (Chugg Entertainment) and David Chitty (Sunset Events) (along with Sat Bisla from A&R Worldwide) took the opportunity of announcing the first speaker line up at MUSEXPO LA on Monday, 26 April as part of a special mini Keynote Summit. During that announcement they said “We are pleased to announce our first round of speakers for 0MFM 2010. It's just a taste of what's to come and we look forward to sharing many more exciting speakers, artist announcements and new initiatives in the coming months to build upon the many outcomes of our inaugural 2009 event”.
Executive Director, Eventscorp, Mr David Van Ooran, said One Music Festival Perth attracts music industry and offers new export ready acts a chance to boost their profiles by getting the attention of visiting music executives.
It positions Perth as a leading original music city, creating vibrancy that appeals to visitors and locals alike,” Van Ooran said.
CONFERENCE SPEAKERS (in alphabetical order):
Gary Chen (China) - Gary Ge Chen is founder, Co-Chairman and CEO of China’s first generation legitimate digital music company, Orca Digital Inc.(www.top100.cn). In 2007, Google joined Top100.cn as a strategic investor and partner and Top100.cn is building a one‐stop, online music service and online music media platform in China. Prior to forming Top100.cn, Gary Ge Chen was Managing Director of Pulay Talent Agency, a full service music entertainment company that promoted more than four hundred concerts and signed more than twenty musicians including Cui Jian, Luo Da You and Zhang Ya Dong.
Nic Harcourt (USA) - Nic Harcourt's tastemaking abilities rose to the fore during his decade‐long tenure as host of Morning Becomes Eclectic, a three-hour weekday morning forum that introduced his fanatical fan base to the hippest new sounds from around the globe. During his tenure Nic helped KCRW attain record donations and increased membership before resigning the position of Music Director in 2008. In 2009, Nic was named Editor at Large, Music & Culture for LA Magazine, the monthly Sunday magazine of the Los Angeles Times where he continues to share his point of view with the readers.
Richard Kingsmill (Aust) – Radio and music have occupied most of Richard Kingsmill’s life – and he wouldn’t have it any other way. He signed on with Triple J Radio in Australia in 1988, initially as a producer, but in 1990 a late-night on-air position became available. Richard was offered the job and has been a regular on-air presence at the station ever since and was named its Music Director in 2003.
Andrew Phillips (Aust) - Andrew is a multi media person with international experience having produced and presented entertainment formats in Australia, England, Africa, Asia and America. In the past few years he has worked on music projects with Artists like U2, REM, Radiohead, Kings Of Leon, Elbow, Amy Winehouse, Coldplay and worked in Radio with some of the world’s leading presenters like Ricky Gervais, Russell Brand, Jimmy Carr, Zane Lowe to mention a few. He has personally built and launched two radio stations; his programs have made the top of iTunes charts, received international recognition and led to prestigious Sony radio Awards in the UK.
Todd Rundgren (USA) - Born and raised in Philadelphia, Rundgren began playing guitar as a teenager and who’s seminal Something/Anything? in 1972 catapulted Todd into the superstar limelight, prompting the press to unanimously dub him 'Rock's New Wunderkind'. It was followed by such landmark LPs as The Hermit of Mink Hollow, A Wizard, A True Star, as well as such hit singles as I Saw The Light, Hello It's Me, Can We Still Be Friends and Bang The Drum. Rundgren's myriad production projects include albums by Patti Smith, Cheap Trick, Psychedelic Furs, Meatloaf, XTC, Grand Funk Railroad, and Hall and Oates. Rundgren’s latest studio album, Todd Rundgren’s Johnson, a collection of classic Robert Johnson songs, is being released this summer.
Thomas Scherer (Germany) ‐ After starting his music business odyssey as a drummer and producer, Thomas Scherer has enjoyed a relationship with BMG of over 20 years, starting in 1989 when he was employed by BMG Ariola GmbH as A&R and Marketing Manager. In 1993 he received a producer contract from BMG, enjoying successful years with his own edition and beginning the collaboration with Hartwig Masuch. Over the past years he’s experienced Platinum successes as a song plugger with Monrose (Germany), Kat-Tun (Japan), Leona Lewis (UK) and Rihanna (US).
Steve Schnur (USA) - As Worldwide Executive and President of EA Music Group for Electronic Arts, Steve Schnur is responsible for the pursuit, creation and continuous development of the global vision for music in EA games. He has brought established stars, breakthrough new artists and award-winning composers to top-selling EA franchises, changing the industry’s perception of video games from simple licensing opportunities to a series of groundbreaking and award winning scores and soundtracks.
Franz Schuller (Canada) - Franz Schuller is Head of A&R and President of Indica‐records in Montreal, Canada which has grown into one of Canada’s hottest indie labels. As head of Indica’s artist development he has signed, worked with and developed young talent from both Canada (Priestess, Dobacaracol, Les Trois Accords) and abroad (The Cat Empire, John Butler Trio, Tryo, Joseph Arthur) since 1997. In his spare time, Schuller is also a member of legendary Alt‐rock‐punk band, GrimSkunk, who have been touring and networking internationally for 20 years now.
Ron Spaulding (USA) ‐ In his role as Exec. VP/GM of Fontana, the independent distribution arm of Universal Music Group Distribution, Ron Spaulding has overseen the rapid expansion of Fontana in such areas as business development, marketing, sales and distribution. As one of the music industry’s leading independent distribution companies, Fontana provides unparalleled sales and marketing support, as well as back office services, for a diverse roster of more than 120 labels and their artists.
Mandar Thakur (India) - Mandar Thakur is a Digital Music and Media Consultant and has been at the forefront of the evolving music business, in diverse roles, over the past 19 years and till recently was part of the Senior management team at Soundbuzz which was Asia / India’s largest Online and Mobile music distribution company and directly held responsibility for the India market.
Damian Trotter (Aust) - Damian is the Managing Director of Sony/ATV Music Publishing Australia, a Director of APRA (Australasian Performing Rights Association), Director and former Chairperson of AMCOS (Australasian Mechanical Copyright Owners Society Limited) and AMPAL (Australasian Music Publishers Association Limited). He is also one of the patrons of the Australian Music Prize (AMP).
Mike Walsh (UK) - Currently, Xfm Head of Music, Mike Walsh has sixteen years of industry experience in both the radio and music industries. After a stint at college radio in both the US and the UK Mike joined the Promotions Department at Parlophone Records where he worked the likes of Radiohead, Coldplay and Blur before returning to radio in 2001, becoming Head of Music for Capital Radio Group’s A/C Network. He now holds the position of Head of Music at Xfm where he has been nominated for Music Week's Radio Programmer of the Year and is on the Brits’ Critics Choice and Live panels.
Spek Hussain Yoosef (UK/UAE) ‐ Managing Director and a founding partner at Fairwood Music (Arabia), the leading music publisher in the Middle East & North Africa, Spek began his career as a successful songwriter, recording artist and producer in his native home of Canada working with artists including Dream Warriors, Us3 and later in the UK with Nitin Sawhney on his Mercury nominated album Beyond Skin. Prior to his current role, Spek was UK & European Representative for Ole Media Management. Based out of London, he sourced acquisitions and developed new business opportunities for the Canadian music publisher with over $100 million in initial financing.
