Over the past two years these Ballarat chums have been at every east coast party attended by everybody who’s anybody. One particularly notable celebration was held in the summer of 2008. The papers reported that the Yacht Club DJs, the forerunner of Ballarat’s erratic scene, held a regatta including several classes of boats in Lake Wendouree. A passing clubman described the event: “Those two guys from Yacht Club DJs, brilliantly illuminated with two turntables and a microphone instead of cannons, ran the gauntlet, spitting mashes of metal and hip hop at the fleet, which in return were bombarded until their decks caught fire and were blown up, throwing out myriads of stars, balls and rockets.” Since then the party starters have played Australia’s greatest festivals. Now that they’re returning west after their recent tour with Does it Offend You, Yeah?, we’ve got just one thing to say: welcome to boating season.
