Recorded at Bob Marley’s legendary Tuff Gong Studios in Jamaica, Major Lazer’s Guns Don’t Kill People… Lazers Do is a collection of tracks that draws from the rich dancehall tradition of Jamaica, and the futuristic dance-floor-killing aesthetic of Diplo and Switch. The record runs global pop culture through the filter of Major Lazer’s particular brand of 1980’s-inspired digital dancehall, at once a homage to a bygone era and a look to the future of dance music. In combining their styles, the Diplo and Switch spawn music of high-tech, insurgent, and strangely supernatural character. Packed with dense dub textures, insurgent sonics, and banging ghetto-crunk beats, Guns Don’t Kill People… Lazer’s Do is the most electrifying musical hybrid of 2009.
