FELICITY GROOM &
THE BLACK BLACK SMOKE
Felicity Groom is a singer songwriter fromthe west coast of Australia, playing a kind of dark folk music heavily inspired by blokes like Nick Cave, Johnny Cash and Leonard Cohen, and ladies like Kate Bush, Francois Hardy and Melanie. Her career began in London in 2004, gathering fans as she started playing shows in the UK, Dublin and Paris. Arriving back in Perth in 2006, a bunch of well-known Perth musicians fell in love with her songs and decided they needed to be her backing band – an underground super group of sorts – now named The Black Black Smoke. The band is Alex Archer (The Kill Devil Hills), Andrew Ryan (Adam Said Galore), Vanessa Thornton (Jebediah) and new drummer Mat Marsh. Earlier this year Felicity launched her debut EP Treasures and has since picked up feature artist spotlights on Triple J, jmag and JTV and won the 2009 WAMi Award for Best Indie Pop Act.
