ECOBOUND 2010
For Southbound 2010 Sunset Events has decided to add the Green Fee of $3 to every ticket sold. At Southbound 2009 30 percent of patrons took up the optional Green Fee, which went directly into purchasing 1098 carbon credits used in offsetting the carbon footprint of those patrons – including travel to and from the event. 2009’s festival also recycled 190 cubic metres of recycled cans, 132 cubic metres of paper and 124 cubic metres of plastic bottles. The festival went on to win a Greener Festival Award – its second such award.
With the $3 mandatory in 2010 together we will be able to improve greatly on the EcoBound program, with the money going towards initiatives such as:
· Increase the recovery of recyclables from festival waste from 70 to 80 percent.
· Improved camp site recycling
· Introduce better composting methods
· Compulsory stall holder packaging policy and audit
· Increase in EcoBound education and awareness campaigns
· Further development of all staple EcoBound initiatives
Sunset Events will also match every Green Fee dollar with $2 of its own money, used to further offset carbon emissions. We will also continue our Tree-For-Ticket policy, where we purchase a tree for every ticket sold. In 2009 this led to 20,000 tree plantings across WA.
We will announce all EcoBound initiatives in the months ahead, plus will document all post festival developments so you can see where your money has gone.
See you at Southbound.
