Staying true to its long term commitment to all things artistic Sunset Events (SE) is proud to announce the formation SE Arts. SE Arts will provide the opportunity for people from all artistic persuasions to express themselves across a range of mediums to a diverse audience base.
SE Arts will provide local artists with creative development opportunities and a platform to showcase their work to thousands.
SE Arts is all about celebrating and incubating new forms of artistic expression and showcasing them through SE’s mix of events and festivals.
Artists will get the time to develop and produce work for specific sites such as:
- Southbound- the mega 3 day outdoor music, arts and camping festival
- the inner city Perth Cultural Centre for St Jerome’s Laneway Festival
- Fremantle Esplanade for West Coast Blues n Roots and
- the Perth city foreshore and streets for the first annual One Movement Festival in October 2009.
ARTRAGE & SUNSET EVENTS Program Partnership
Sunset Events is extremely proud to contribute to the existing, rich and vibrant arts scene in Western Australia. To ensure SE Arts reaches its true potential a partnership has been developed with the most dynamic multi-arts organisation in Western Australia, ARTRAGE.

Sunset Events, in association with ARTRAGE, will foster creativity across the calendar of Sunset Events activities by engaging local artists to produce a wide range of work and develop visionary projects and partnerships.
ARTRAGE runs the ever-popular multi arts venue The Bakery in the heart of Northbridge, produces the biennial ARTRAGE Festival has a history of producing such large-scale innovative programs as Semi Permanent, in association with Deign is Kinky plus NYE Northbridge Celebrations with the City of Perth.
SE Arts – incubating new forms of artistic expression
ARTRAGE and Sunset Events, through its new SE Arts (Sunset Events Arts) not-for-profit arts division, have joined forces to establish an exciting new arts commission project offering $10,000 to a WA artist to design and produce a unique, large-scale sculpture that will become the iconic centrepiece for Sunset Events’ summer festival season, including Southbound, Laneway and the West Coast Blues ’n’ Roots Festival.
Submissions are now open and will close at 5pm Friday, October 23 2009. The Sculpture Commission will be awarded on November 14.
Entry for the Sculpture Commission is free and submissions should encompass and/or reference the following themes and concepts, which form part of Sunset Events’ festival doctrine:
• The summer festival season with Sunset Events (live music, community goodwill, exploration, sunshine, adventure and a celebration of all things WA).
• SE Arts (creativity, freedom, innovation, positivity and experimentation).
• Environmental concerns are foremost in Sunset Events’ vision and operation of its festivals. Therefore, entrants are encouraged to utilise recycled materials or represent environmental themes in their submission.
All artwork submissions will be assessed by a panel that includes: Marcus Canning (Artrage Director/CEO), Joy Legge (Independent Art Consultant Curator and Valuer) and Tony Jones (Award Winning Sculpture).

All submissions must be received by 5pm Friday, October 23, in the application format provided. Late submissions will not be accepted. Submissions should included a completed application form, an artist statement outlining concept, design and construction (max. 2 pages), a brief and current CV/artist profile (max. 1 page), images/drawings of proposed sculpture design (max. 10) and images of previous work (max. 6).
